Darcy,

Was going for a reality check. Pretty unlikely that such reflection will change my "homer" views, but credit should be given where it's due.

If you give me a chance to catch my breath, we'll be talking smack all too soon!

But seriously, couldn't believe the way all the Pac-10 teams were run over. Maybe it was something in the water?

Thanks for your kind words Darcy. To say your praise is truly appreciated on begins to describe my reaction.

One more thing....

<blink>GO COUGS!!!</blink>

Lew,
Does the New Moon have your Jockies in a twist---my we're slamdunking today!

It's funny that our Fantasy B-Ball team was named "Memphis is Overrated". I'll be cheering the Tigers on tonight.

I always enjoy your journalism, even if I don't always submit the Digg!

Padnpen,

Nervous might be apt, but that wasn't my view. They were up against a group of awesome athletes that played excellent defense. Kudos to Coach Williams for coming up with a scheme that took away our strengths. Compare the Heels performance to that of USC and you'll see my point. The Trojans had a very athletic starting five, but failed to remained focused. Coach Floyd wasn't able to hold the attention of his players the way Coach Williams did.

Just like you said, the season the Cougs put together this year was something special. If it didn't satisfy someone, they should probably jump on another bandwagon. This group of players went out expecting to win every game and played like it. And they did so with class and style. What more could you ask for from your school's basketball program?

The only thing I wish is that Coach Bennett wouldn't have dodged the questions about the Indiana job during the press conference following the last game. Sure the questions should have been directed toward the outstanding group of seniors, but come on! Why create intrigue? What on earth would it hurt to use the Nancy Reagan strategy? <blink>Just say NO!!!</blink>

Since I only saw the first half, thanks to CBS cutting away to the West Virginia game, I was left with the conclusion that the Cougs looked nervous. They missed lots of shots they normally make and looked a bit frantic.

But North Carolina looked better. Our lack of athletic ability was obvious as their defense was quick to the ball.

I wish I could have seen the whole game and I wish we would have been closer. Heck, I even wish we would have won. But I am one satisfied Coug fan. I've never been able to root for them this far into March and enjoyed every minute of it. Even losing to North Carolina. I'm certainly proud to be a Coug right now!

Alaska Coug and MarkE are locked in on what is exciting about Cougar basketball these days. Team ball. Clearly that is part of the reason WSU is flying a bit under the radar of ESPN and CBS. There are no individuals to hype up for the Cougs. It would take some creative word crafting to spin something engaging about team play in a world of slam dunk highlights. WSU is so disciplined that even some ardent fans might find themselves yawning during one of their workman-like games.

When you consider the potential for Kyle Weaver, it's one destined for the spotlight. He came to Pullman with raw talent and will leave a polished, talented player who has soaked up the tutelage of Coach Bennett(s) like a sponge.

This blogger is just hoping to survive the next victory, for a win by the Cougs over North Carolina will place extraordinary stress on the heart. Having already survived seeing our football team play in two Rose Bowl games, is it possible to handle a trip to the Elite 8?

Can't wait to find out!!!

<blink>GO COUGS!!!</blink>

Alaska Coug said it right. A solid team will beat a single player just about every time (with exception of the Michael Jordans of the world). WSU is a very solid, very poised defensive team. When they play their best they are, as our blog-meister points out, a clinic on the game. And, who can say enough about Weaver? We'll be watching him in the pros for a long time. GO COUGS!!

Alaska Coug,

I think that WSU was taking what they were given in the first half. They weren't that far away from their typically methodical play. Winthrop just didn't have the size to get physical with the Cougs for the entire game. As for the defense in the second half, just one word. <blink>Awesome!</blink>

Great to see Baynes have another perfect game from the floor. Wasn't the furthest shoot he tried about 8' from the bucket? Size matters.

Bring on the Irish!

<blink>GO COUGS!!!</blink>

Yikes!! The Cougs held Winthrop to ELEVEN points for the entire second half! What an incredible show.
Interestingly, in the first half we tried too hard to push our offense-being a superior team and larger we tried too hard to score quickly-but that isn't our game. In the second half we played more patiently and viola-our offense was more effective. Lesson: if we play Washington State style of ball the whole game-we win.
